How to be the perfect Airbnb guest

Our Airbnb apartment in Boulder

There's a piano and everything! We heart Airbnb.

Today, we’re checking out of our 13th Airbnb apartment in a row, ending a run of 10 solid months living only in other people’s places. Along the way we’ve smashed glasses (Rob), ripped off doorhandles (Rob again) and spilled macaroni cheese on a rug or two (you guessed it), but we still get great reviews from every Airbnb host we stay with. This isn’t some kind of Jedi mind trick: we really do put a lot of thought into being the best guests possible. On the whole, it’s pretty obvious…

Their casa es su casa – interview with Airbnb hosts in Barcelona, Spain

It’s a matter of public record that we’re pretty obsessed with Airbnb – we’ve been staying in Airbnb apartments non-stop for six months, we’ve written a book about it, and we’re in the process of interviewing all the hosts we’ve stayed with to get their perspective. Airbnb hosts – interview 4: Louis from the Lower East Side, Manhattan

Louis (Lower East Side): “I try to pick folks with a more detailed profile. Pictures and references help” We have a running series of interviews with our Airbnb hosts. Learn more about them here. We stayed in Louis’ Lower East Side apartment back in April. It had recently been completely renovated, and we were one of the first to experience the brand new bed, beautifully tiled bathroom and gorgeous new kitchen area. I need to mention the bed again (and poor Louis has heard me go on about it a few…

Your really useful guide to New York neighbourhoods

Six months ago we moved to New York for six months, and in that time we lived in EIGHT different neighbourhoods. Here is a (hopefully) useful summary of them all. Park Slope Everyone (well, New York magazine in 2010, at least) considers Park Slope to be one of NYC’s most desirable locations. And I can see why: it’s pretty, for one thing – there are lots of brownstone houses and leafy streets. Then there’s all that green space in Prospect Park – actual green, regular, open space rather than carousels,…
